Explain how to get the distance between two objects in motion S5FE-IIIa-1.5 (Activity Sheet)

DISTANCE

Learning Competencies:

The learners should be able to:
1. Explain how to get the distance between two objects in motion S5FE-IIIa-1.5
2. Measure the distance traveled by a cart along a horizontal plane S5FE-IIIa-1.6
3. Use a standard unit and proper measuring tools to measure distance.

Let’s Try This and Self- Check

  Materials:

1 small toy car                                a five peso coin                                 a tape measure

Procedure:
1. From the starting point, push the car so that it travels certain distance. Measure and record the distance it traveled
2.  From the same starting point, push the five peso coin and wait until it drops to a certain distance. Measure and record the distance it traveled.
3. Complete the table.

Objects
Distance travelled (cm)
1. car

2. five peso coin

3. Answer the following questions:
a. Which set-up reached the farthest? ______________________________________________
b. Which set-up reached the shortest? ______________________________________________
c. How long does it take the book to reach the floor? ___________________________________
d. What did you apply to make the objects move? _____________________________________
e. What did you use to measure the distance? ________________________________________

4. Explain what distance is and how to measure it.

Let’s Study and Analyze

Direction: Write TRUE if the statement is correct and FALSE if it is incorrect.

______ 1. The standard unit of measurement of distance or length in metric system is miles.
______ 2. Meterstick, tape measure and sturdy rope are some of the standard tools in measuring distance.
______ 3. The measure of how far or near two points are from one another is called distance.
______ 4. The metric system of measurement of distance is used only in the Philippines.
______ 5. Ruler is the proper tool to measure kilometer.

Remember This
Distance is the measure of how far or near two points are from one another. Measuring distance helps in determining the effect of motion on the length covered by an object from one point to another point. Having a standard unit to measure makes it easier to understand other recorded data.
