THE USE OF MATERIALS FROM ONE MERALCO FOUNDATION IN GRADE 5 SCIENCE

THE USE OF MATERIALS FROM
ONE MERALCO FOUNDATION
IN
GRADE 5 SCIENCE

One Meralco Foundation is determined to bring the light of hope to underserved communities within and beyond the Meralco franchise area, carrying out the company's dream to make the future brighter for the Filipino people.

Launched in 2015, the Energy Education Program aims to provide learning programs and tools that will enable educators to teach energy-related concepts to their students. Designed to complement the School Electrification Program, the program encourages deeper understanding of energy and promotes efficient and responsible use of this valuable resource.

Luckily, the science teachers of Nangka Elementary School received materials from the Energy Education Program of One Meralco Foundation.

Before the start of the third quarter, the Science teachers of grade 5 had been brainstorming on how to use the instructional materials given to us by the One Meralco Foundation. It was very timely since the topics in the third quarter are all about energy, force and motion. The schedule of each teacher in using these materials has been discussed and the integration of these materials in the lessons has also been planned.

The cards and other materials were also used in the evaluation of learning. In this instance, the tools were used to provide students feedback and measure their progress.

In other lessons, some materials have been used as tools for experimentations and key guides in doing activities. Here are some pictures that evidently show how grade 5 teachers maximized the materials given to NES.

A student-centered approach which actively engages the young person in the learning process is critical if skills which result in healthy behaviors are to be fostered and developed. Some of the learning strategies that could be incorporated in a comprehensive approach include self-directed learning, co-operative learning, role playing, behavioral rehearsal, peer education and parent involvement. An effective, goal-oriented, teaching-learning sequence contains clearly understood objectives, productive classroom activities, and a sufficient amount of feedback to make students aware of the strengths and weaknesses of their performances.

With these, we can say that these materials helped teachers in elaborating certain topics within the third quarter. But since the teaching and learning is continues process, we must not confined ourselves with few strategies and methods. Instead, we must also develop ourselves and upgrade our tools to engage our pupils more in participating during the process.

Relatively speaking, because of the resourcefulness and effectiveness of the teachers, the accuracy and meaningfulness of the materials given to us by OMF, and the support of the administration of NES, the learning results were commendably visible. These can be reflected to the ISLA results from September 2017 with the mean of 32.45 that was increased to 33.30 on November 2017

Thanks to One Meralco Foundation for giving us this materials. We hope that OMF will provide NES more materials like these in the future to cater more pupils. May OMF tirelessly and continuously help NES and will have more partnership programs in the school.
